I think it’s the reason we have our phones

glued to the palms of our hands.

I think it’s the reason we nod at strangers

on the sidewalk and hold the door

for those who walk by.

I think it’s the reason we post photos

and check the comments.

I think it’s the reason we work overtime-

arriving early, staying late.

I think it’s the reason we send check-in texts

when it’s been a few weeks.

I think it’s the reason we binge-watch tv shows

that make us feel alive.

I think most of the time,

in almost every way,

we are all asking

a hundred times a day-

is there room for me here?
